Common Questions Answered
Does this plugin require a Firebase account?
Yes. The plugin uses Google Firebase's Real-Time Database to handle all chat data. You will need a Firebase project (free tier is available) and to paste your Firebase API credentials into the plugin settings. A setup video is included to walk you through the process.
Will this slow down my LearnDash website?
No — the opposite. Because all chat data is processed by Firebase's external servers, there is virtually no additional load on your WordPress or LearnDash installation. This is the core architectural improvement in V2.
Can I restrict chat to specific courses only?
Yes. The admin can enable or disable the chat feature on a per-course basis. It will only appear for courses where it has been explicitly turned on.
Can students chat with each other, or only with the teacher?
Students enrolled in the same course can chat with each other. There is also a direct one-to-one channel between each student and their assigned course admin, teacher, or group leader.
What file types can be shared in the chat?
Participants can share PDF, XLS, and DOC files, as well as image files, directly within the chat window during a conversation.
Is message deletion available to all users by default?
No. The ability for students or teachers to delete their own messages is controlled by the admin. If the admin does not enable this feature, no one can delete messages, preserving the integrity of course conversations.
